In case you missed it the first time when it occurred a few weeks ago, Bungie is bringing down its API to stem a flood of error codes plaguing Destiny 2. This means that services like Bungie’s Official Companion App, many third-party sites,and services like Braytech.org and Destiny Item Managerare also down.
The news came from the officialBungie Help Twitter accountroughly a day after players began encountering a host of problems. These would range from disconnects to Triumphs not tracking and rewards being revoked. The issue was tracked to faulty code with the new Revision Zero Exotic. Rather than disable the new Exotic and Operation: Seraph’s Shield Weapon, Bungie opted to disable the API.

This is the second time Bungie has taken this drastic step within a month. The community is…less than pleased with this course of action. This is largely because rather than having a competent item manager and in-game matchmaking system for many activities, Bungie has relied on third parties to fill this void.
What’s even more concerning is that the issue has not only reared its head twice recently, but it is close to the release of the Lightfall expansion, which is supposed to have additional features like in-game matchmaking and loadouts. Fans are understandably upset and have had their faith in the developer shaken. Here’s hoping that this is the last time this has happened.
As the team continues to investigate issues causing numerous error codes, the Destiny API will remain offline. We are currently targeting a fix for early next week, but will provide additional updates when possible.
