When you’ve been spelunking for too long, and you start to become weary, it’s easy to lose your way. In the shroud of darkness, each passageway looks identical to the last. In the case of Witt’s End, however, every passage leads back to the main room except for one. In your subterranean delirium, you must discover which tunnel leads to the exit. With 10 tunnels to choose from, that can be challenging and even frustrating. Here’s how to escape Witt’s End inColossal Cave 3D.
How do you leave Witt’s End in Colossal Cave?
If it seems likethe correct exit is constantly changing, you are correct. There are 10 possible exits, including the eight tunnels and two ladder directions, and there is a 10% chance that you will choose the correct exit. The exit changes every time you return to the main room, and it cannot be the tunnel that is directly behind you.

Although it seems like there should be a logical solution to this puzzle, you must simply try random exits until you find the correct one. Try tokeep walking through different tunnels, rather than repeating the same one in a row. Use your map and compass to help determine which tunnels you haven’t explored yet. This arbitrary solution may be frustrating, especially in a game with logical puzzles. However, there is an additional solution.
Another way you may leave Witt’s End is bynot entering the room altogether. Since there are no items to be found in this area, you can avoid it entirely. If you’ve already entered the room, and don’t feel like randomly walking through tunnels, you canload a previous saveand continue on your journey. Although you may have to backtrack, it is certainly better than hearing “You’ve crawled around in some little holes” on repeat.
