Healing in FFXIV, or any MMO, can be complex, so getting any advantage you may is ideal. That’s where mouseover healing comes in. In many MMOs, some plugins or add-ons allow you to hover your mouse over a friendly character’s name or health bar and heal them, hence mouseover healing. Here’s how to enable and start mouseover healing in Final Fantasy XIV.

Mouseover healing in Final Fantasy XIV

In FFXIV, mouseover healing isn’t enabled by default, and there’s no base setting to turn it on. As a result, you’ll have to create a macro for this. This is relatively simple, but it will also need some trial and error to get it to work for you.

The basic formula for the macro is/ac “Ability Name” . Theis the modifier that makes it mouse over, while/acmakes it autocast. So for example, to mouseover heal with the Sage’s Druochole, your macro would look a little like the below. For extra help on macros, check outour guide.

Using mouseover healing in FFXIV

Mouseover healing has its advantages and disadvantages. Auto casts in FFXIV are notoriously unreliable, especially if you already have global cooldowns (GCDs) running. Using multiple instances of /ac in your macro might help, but in the case of heals with charges, this can lead to wasted charges or overhealing.

What’s more, there’s the issue of mistargeting. In general, it’s best to combine mouseover heals and direct click healing/hotkeys. The macro system in FFXIV isn’t robust enough to make it flawless!
