The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tearsis a Genshin impact World Quest inThe Dirge of Bilqis quest chain. Once you enter the Temple of Gurabad, you need to solve three similar puzzles that involve opening the gate, activating devices, exploring the area, and returning to the main room.
Below is a detailed walkthrough on how to solve the entire puzzle segment in the World Quest. Since all three puzzles are similar to each other, we’ll walk you through the first part in detail and focus on new mechanics for the next two parts. Genshin Impact The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tears puzzle walkthrough
Wehighly recommend turning on the quest marker/quest navigation(the blue diamond that shows you the way) as it will make navigation in the underground maze so much easier.
Open the gate (1/3)
For this segment, turn on your quest navigator, which willpoint to the Sand Pileyou need to remove. Then attack the nearby Rune Mechanism until theblue beam is facing the Sand Pile, dispersing it and revealing a mechanism.Interactwith the mechanism to open the gate and enter to proceed.
Activate the device and, in turn, another machine somewhere within the temple (1/3)
Upon entering the room, you’ll find an optional Rune Mechanism and Sand Pile puzzle, which will reward you with a Common Chest. Since it’s not necessary for this quest, you can ignore it if you prefer. Proceed with interacting with themechanism beside the doorto open it.
Follow the path until you reach a huge room with two statues.Turn rightand enter the smaller room to find a Rune Mechanism and Sand Pile puzzle.
First, you need to find a way to unblock the path for the blue beam to cross to the other room. Attack the Rune Mechanism until the blue beam isfacing the Sand Pileon the right, dispersing it and revealing a lever. Interact with the lever toopenthe hatch on the pyramid-shaped window on the left.
Attack the Rune Mechanism again until the blue beam isfacing the pyramid-shaped windowon the left. Since it’s now open, the beam will be able to disperse sand in the other room.
Go back to the entrance of the room with the two statues. This time,turn left. you may ignore the other puzzles as they aren’t related to the quest. Instead, you can directly interact with the mechanism in front of the door to open it.
Enter the room and ignore the locked mechanism. Turn right, where you’ll find the device in a brightly-lit space. Interact with thedeviceto prompt a small cutscene and unlock the other mechanism outside.

Look for another exit (1/3)
Simply go out of the room and interact with the now-unlocked mechanism to open the door. Upon entering, you’ll find another Rune Mechanism and Sand Pile puzzle. Attack the Rune Mechanism until theblue beam is facing the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism beside the door. Interact with it to unlock the door and proceed onward.
Search the temple (1/3)
You’ll find yourself in a room with a broken floor. Turn on yourquest navigationto make this part so much easier! A glowing spot will appear so simply glide toward it at the bottom of the crater, where the water level is high.
From here, keep following the quest navigator. Reference the images above to help you stay on track. Your goal is to reach the glowing spot beside the Primal Constructs. You can also defeat them to unlock the Chest, but it’s optional.
Keep following the path until you reach the Rune Mechanism and Sand Pile puzzle in front of the door. Attack the Rune Mechanism until theblue beam is facing the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism. Interact with it to open the door, completing this segment.
Find the activated machine (1/3)
A lot of the machines in the room look the same, so follow the quest navigator to find the correct one. Approach it to prompt dialogue with the party.
Scatter dust around the sealing machine (1/3)
Attack the machine once or until theblue beam is facing the giant pyramidat the center of the room, dispersing the sand and completing the segment.
Open the gate (2/3)
Similar to the first instance, turn on yourquest navigatorto figure out the next room you need to work on. Then attack the bigger mechanism directly in front of the room until theblue beam is pointing to the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism beside the door. Interact with it to open the door and proceed.
Activate the device and, in turn, another machine somewhere within the temple (2/3)
There’s a new quirk to Rune Mechanisms—they can now move at command.Movethe Rune Mechanism until it’s closer to the wall, then attack it until theblue beam is facing the Sand Pile. The Sand Pile will disperse and reveal a mechanism, which you must interact with to open the door.
You’ll find another puzzle inside the new room, but it’s optional. Interact with the mechanism beside the door to open it and move forward with the quest. Don’t forget to unlock the hidden Teleport Waypoint.
This room is formatted similarly to the one before. You need to start from theright sidefirst as well.
The puzzle is the same as the first one, with the addition of the moving mechanic. Follow these steps to solve it:
Return to the large clearing, and this time,turn left. You mustmovethe Rune Mechanism so that it’s closer to the door. Then attack it until the blue beam is facing the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism. Interact with it to open the door and enter. Once inside, turn right andinteract with the deviceto complete this segment.

Look for a way back to the temple (2/3)
Go back and interact with the now-unlocked mechanism to open the door, then follow the path until you encounter the next puzzle. To solve it, start bymovingthe Rune Mechanism so that it’s closer to the wall. Then attack it until the blue beam is facing the Sand Pile, revealing amechanism. Interact with it to open the door and enter.
Turn on yourquest navigatorfor this segment. Glide downward to enter a clearing with mobs. Follow the direction of the quest navigator—you can reference the images above to help you stay on track.
Once you reach the building with the two giant hourglasses, climb the stairs and interact with themechanismto open the door. Enter and follow the path toward the glowing spot to complete this segment.
Scatter the dust around the sealing machine (2/3)
Follow the quest navigator toward the larger mechanism, then interact with it until the blue beam is facing the pyramid at the center of the room. This will get rid of the Sand Piles and complete this part of the quest.
Open the gate (3/3)
Turn on yourquest navigatorto figure out the next room you need to work on. Then attack the bigger mechanism directly in front of the room until theblue beam is pointing to the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism beside the door. Interact with it to open the door and proceed.

Upon entering the room,turn leftto enter a smaller space, where you must solve a puzzle. Move the Rune Mechanism so that it’s closer to the door. Attack it until the blue beam is facing the Sand Pile, revealing a mechanism. Interact with the mechanism to open the door and enter.
Follow the path until you’re in another room with a Primal Construct. Defeat the enemy, then turn your attention to the puzzle. It’s essentially a relay, where the Rune Mechanisms will unlock one at a time. Follow the steps below:
The Sand Pile will unlock another Rune Mechanism. You need to control it (circled above). Follow the steps below:
This time, you need to control the newly-unlocked Rune Mechanism (circled above). Follow the steps below:
There are a few puzzles in this room, but they’re optional. Focus on goingup the stairs, where you’ll find a Rune Mechanism. Attack the Rune Mechanism until the blue beam is facing the Sand Pile by the wall. Once the sand disperses, a mechanism will appear.
Interact with the mechanism to make theplatform disappear. Then plunge down and interact with thedeviceto complete this segment.
Look for a way back to the temple (3/3)
After activating the device, go forward and climb up to return to the previous area. You must now solve the puzzle beside the Teleport Waypoint. Attack the Rune Mechanism until the blue beam is facing the Sand Pile. Once the sand disperses, interact with the mechanism to open the door.
Follow the path to find yet another Rune Mechanism. Move it so that it’s closer to the door, attack it until the blue beam gets rid of the sand, and interact with the mechanism to open the door.
