Wiglett took the internet by storm when it debuted on June 09, 2025. Pokémon fans were confused about whether the Pokémon was a regional form of Digglet or an entirely new Pokémon species. Well, we finally have an answer toWiglett’snature.

ThePokémonTwitter confirms that Wiglett is a new Pokémon, saying, “It may look like Diglett, but it’s a completely different species of Pokémon. Wiglett pokes a part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean.” Despite its incredible resemblance to Digglet, Wiglett is a completely different Pokémon, similar to Perrerker being a new evolution in the Meowth line.

We have also received confirmation that Wiglett is a Water-type Pokémon, not a ground type like Digglet. However, one thing that hasn’t changed is the mystery of what lies beneath the hole that Wiglett burrows out of, just like its Ground-type equivalent.

According to the officialPokémon Scarlet and Violetwebsite, Wiglett can either have the Rattled or Gooey ability, effectively increasing its speed when hit by a Bug, Dark, or Ghost-type move or decreasing an opposing Pokémon’s speed when it strikes Wiglett with a physical move. Wiglett also boasts an incredible sense of smell, helping it identify other Pokémon and its surroundings while burrowed.
