InValheim, there are a total of 15 skills, and they dictate how well you can perform nearly every action in the game, from mining to swimming; here is how to level them all up and how skill progression works.
How to level up all skills in Valheim
To level up a skill, you will need to do whatever that skill is tied to repeatedly, so for example, to level up your wood cutting and pickaxe skill, you will need to chop wood with an axe and mine rocks with a pickaxe.
That said, there are a total of two skill types and you will need to do a specific action to level them up, two of which we already gave you here. Also, if you ever wanted to check on your skills' progress, you can do so by visiting the skill tab in your inventory, as shown below.
How to level up weapon skills in Valheim
Eight of the skills in Valheim are weapon-related, and to level up them up, you will have to use a weapon belonging to a skill, i.e., swinging a sword and killing enemies will level up the sword skill.
As a side note, you will need to unlock most of these weapon skills by obtaining a weapon that falls under a specific weapon type. For example, you will need to make a spear before you’re able to level up polearms.

How to level up environment skills
Other than weapon skills, you also have a few environmental skills, and to level them up is the same deal as weapon skills. But in this case, you don’t need to craft something to level some of these environment skills. In fact, most will level on their by merely performing a specific action, such as swimming or running; both of these will level your running and swimming skills, respectively.
